The Greater White Bear Lake Community Foundation (GWBLCF) and Lake Links Association have formed a partnership that will enable tax deductible contributions for the Association’s efforts to create safe passage for kids, bikes, pedestrians and the disabled around White Bear Lake.

The foundation will serve as fiscal sponsor for Lake Links Association and has established a designated fund for the project. Since the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public foundation, donors can receive a tax deduction for any contributions made to the Lake Links Association Fund of the GWBLCF. Funds raised by Lake Links through GWBLCF will be used to ensure that a quality route is completed; to cover expenditures not fundable by governmental units; and to provide amenities needed to make the trail useful and beautiful.

“The Lake Links project supports the foundation’s mission of inspiring philanthropy and enriching the lives of people who live in the communities that share the shores of White Bear Lake,” stated Bill Foussard, foundation chair. “We believe this partnership is a natural fit for the foundation and we are excited about its potential to benefit our community.”

Under the leadership of co-chairs Steve Wolgamot and Mike Brooks, the Association worked with members of a local state delegation to secure an appropriation of $255,000 from the Minnesota Legislature to fund preliminary engineering along the route and complete a section of the bike-walk path on the west end of the lake

“The community very much appreciates the efforts of Sen Chuck Wiger and Rep. Peter Fisher to ensure that these funds would be made available,” Wolgamot said. “This is a grassroots project that involves many members of the greater White Bear Lake community. Working together to complete a safe route around the lake, we will make a difference for our children, grandchildren and generations to come.”
